Apple TV+ has officially renewed the sci-fi saga ‘Foundation’ for a fourth season. The announcement came a day before the third season finale became available for streaming, confirming that the story based on Isaac Asimov's novels will continue.

‘Foundation’: The Plot

As the show progresses, it delves deeper into the complex galactic conflict. The Foundation, which began as a small, humble group, has now expanded into a major power.

At the same time, the once-mighty Cleonic Dynasty's Empire is showing signs of decline. In a surprising turn, these two forces form a fragile alliance to face a new, shared enemy: a powerful warlord known as ‘The Mule’. He seeks to conquer the universe through brute force and mind control, setting up a high-stakes, intergalactic chess match with the fates of Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons, and Demerzel hanging in the balance.

‘Foundation’ Cast

The cast of the Apple TV+ series 'Foundation' is led by Jared Harris, starring as Hari Seldon, Lee Pace as Brother Day, Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick, Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin and Laura Birn as the android Eto Demerzel.

The series also features a large, rotating cast of supporting actors throughout its seasons, including Alfred Enoch, Isabella Laughland, Ben Daniels, Kulvinder Ghir, Dimitri Leonidas, and many more who bring Asimov's expansive universe to life.

‘Foundation’ Review

‘Foundation’ is a truly ambitious and visually stunning sci-fi series that has evolved into a compelling space saga. While it takes significant creative liberties with its source material, a necessary choice given the unfilmable nature of Isaac Asimov's novels, the show excels as its own entity.

The series is also lauded for its grand-scale visuals, impressive CGI, and engaging character dynamics. It remains a cerebral and rewarding watch, despite its dense plotting and lack of accessibility for casual viewers.

Showrunners And Cast Share Excitement On Renewal Of Series

The show has undergone some behind-the-scenes changes. The renewal had been anticipated for some time, especially after Ian Goldberg (Fear the Walking Dead) was brought in as a new co-showrunner and executive producer earlier this year.

Goldberg's hiring followed a challenging third season that saw the departure of co-developer and director David S. Goyer amid production adjustments. For season four, Goldberg will serve as co-showrunner alongside David Kob.

Both expressed their enthusiasm, stating they feel "lucky and honoured" to carry the show forward and are eager to continue the "epic, emotional storytelling."

Apple TV+'s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, also commented on the series, calling it a "global phenomenon" and praising the cast and creative team for their work.
