The movie follows four young friends on a journey to find a dead body, which is equivalent to a journey of growing up and facing reality. This theme of growing up and dealing with emotions is something that Stranger Things explores too.

The movie IT (2017) and Stranger Things share some key similarities where both the stories feature a group of kids in a small town who have to battle a supernatural monster. In IT, the monster is Pennywise, a terrifying clown, while in Stranger Things, it's the Demogorgon. Although both monsters are scary, Pennywise is particularly creative and visually striking in how it frightens its victims. Both stories also have a nostalgic feel, with IT set in the 1980s, just like Stranger Things.
