While most tidying tips advise you to tackle one room at a time and go step by step. The KonMari Method has a different approach. It tells you to pick stuff category-wise. So you begin tidying up your home by organizing your clothes first, then your books, papers, miscellaneous items (called komono) and at last, arranging items that have sentimental value. Marie Kondo advises you to arrange in such a way that you only retain items that spark joy in your life and discard items that do the opposite. Ever since she started advocating this method of cleaning up, people became attracted to it as it teaches them to be mindful, introspective and focus on the future. According to the KonMari Method, there are 6 rules of tidying up as follows:
- Committing yourself to the clean-up
- Imagining the ideal lifestyle you want to have
- Finishing with discarding the unwanted items first
- Doing the process as per category and not location
- Following the correct order
- Asking yourself, if the item you want to retain sparks joy or not

Tip: Items that you want to keep in shape, should go near the suitcase handle. Pack shoes in a separate bag. Use flat compartment for travel documents. Jackets and other items that retain their shape can go last. Tuck socks in the space created by your bra cups and voila! You are neatly packed and ready to go.
