The increased usage of social media and mobile devices on temple premises has prompted the Kedarnath temple administration to move to prohibit their use and impose tight restrictions on them.

The Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has now written to top police authorities on the increasing cases of social media influencers filming reels and videos within Kedarnath Dham premises and asked them to take strict action against such persons, adding that they are planning to set up a cloakroom, where the mobile handsets of devotees can be deposited to curb these practices in future.

This happens a few days after a video went viral of a girl proposing to a boy inside the temple premises. The BKTC has termed this a trend that is hurting the shrine's religious sanctity. Moreover, the BKTC executive officer, Ramesh Chandra Tiwari, said, “It has come to our notice that some social media influencers are shooting videos at Kedarnath that are religiously objectionable and have hurt the feelings of devotees. Strict action should take in this regard so that such acts are not repeated in a place of worship.”

Here are other things that you should not carry to this temple:

phones

  • The Kedarnath Temple has banned the use of mobile phones and cameras inside the temple premises to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for worship and contemplation. Along with mobile phones and cameras, tourists and pilgrims are also not allowed to carry leather goods, including bags, belts, and wallets, inside the temple. Additionally, carrying food, beverages, and cigarettes is also prohibited.
  • Furthermore, visitors are advised to dress modestly and avoid wearing short clothes. The temple administration also recommends bringing warm clothes as the temperature can drop severely, especially at night.
  • Visitors are also encouraged to show respect towards the temple, its traditions, and the local culture. Misbehavior, defiling the temple premises, and disrespecting the sanctity of the temple are strictly prohibited.
