Who Is Himanshu Jangra? The Gurugram Man Fired Over A ₹370 Biryani Joke At A Pranit More Comedy Show

A casual night out at a stand-up comedy show has turned into a career-ending nightmare for Himanshu Jangra, a 23-year-old web developer from Gurugram. Jangra became the target of massive national outrage after a crowd-work video featuring him and comedian Pranit More went viral across Instagram and Twitter. In the clip, Jangra proudly recounted a story about a recent date, stating that because he spent ₹370 on a plate of chicken biryani for a woman, he felt entitled to recover his investment. The joke quickly took a dark turn when he detailed how he pressured the hesitant woman to accompany him to a dark, secluded park. What was initially laughed off by the comedian as ‘peak Gurgaon behaviour’ quickly ignited a fierce online debate surrounding dating entitlement, toxic masculinity, and the critical boundaries of consent.

Who Is Himanshu Jangra

Himanshu Jangra, a 23-year-old corporate professional and web developer based in Gurugram, India, was at the centre of a nationwide storm over dating entitlement, misogyny and the accountability of the digital-era workplace. Jangra was a quiet digital professional at Starvik Design, a leading branding and design agency based in Gurugram, until early June 2026. However, following a live stand-up comedy show and an informal audience interaction segment, his private life and professional career collided catastrophically. The video of his answers was posted to the internet, making him an anonymous tech worker overnight and a widely criticised viral figure, leading to his public sacking and the removal of his personal social media profiles.

The ‘Rs 370 Biryani’ Controversy

The issue broke out after the circulation of a video clip of the crowd work of stand-up comedian Pranit More, which had gone viral on Instagram and Twitter. In the video, Jangra was seen actively participating and telling More the story of his most recent date, in which he had spent ₹370 for a plate of chicken biryani for his female companion. The guy boldly remarked, “Maine kaha 370 rupay lage hain, main wasool toh karunga,” and clearly conveyed that paying for his basic meal had given him the right to physical intimacy or sex with his companion. Matters became worse when he shared how he had convinced the reluctant girl to follow him to a dark and secluded park, although she had shown reservations regarding going there. The situation escalated even further when internet celebrities such as Sakshi Shivdasani and Kusha Kapila criticised both Jangra for being a misogynistic man and the comedian for not addressing his remarks seriously by considering them just 'peak Gurgaon content.'

Corporate Action and Internal Review

The outcry over this incident grew beyond just the internet and reached the rest of India, so, with the help of vigilant internet users, Jangra's online profile was quickly traced to his employer: Starvik Design. Starvik Design received hundreds of angry emails and phone calls, and social media posts demanding that the company take immediate action against Jangra for his comments. Starvik Design's founder, Vivek Vishwakarma, responding to the incident, initiated an internal inquiry process in order to evaluate the facts of this situation. Starvik Design also conducted an extensive internal investigation into the incident and, as part of that, interviewed Jangra's coworkers, which included female employees working with him directly. The internal inquiry confirmed that Jangra had no complaints made against him while at work and was consistently viewed as professional, courteous, dedicated, and well-mannered during his time at work. Mr Vishwakarma stated that Jangra's comments were obviously offensive and that they were blatantly contrary to the standards of safety and corporate values of the company. As a result of this, Vishwakarma made the decision to terminate Jangra's employment immediately, despite the fact that these statements occurred outside of the workplace, due to the damage that this would do to Starvik Design's reputation. Mr Vishwakarma further noted that Jangra's comments had such a negative impact on the company's image that it was necessary to sever ties with him in order to maintain the company's integrity and the future of the company's youth throughout the United States.
