Sustainable and environment-friendly weddings are a popular and coolest wedding trend that is rapidly gaining popularity which is not just a great idea but also a call of the hour. These days, more and more people are opting for small, intimate weddings with environmentally sustainable decor.
Throwing a sustainable wedding also ensures a creative and innovative wedding event that will wow all of your guests. Recently, many celebrities also opted for eco-friendly weddings. These celebrity couples include Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar, Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, Dia Mirza and Vaibhav Rekhi.
Take a peek at some eco- friendly ideas which will make this special wedding day even more special.
1. Narrow Down Your Guest List
It might sound like a good plan to invite everyone you know to the wedding but it's actually not. The smaller the guest list, you're likely to produce less waste. Think wisely and prepare your guest list accordingly.
2. Go For Eco- Friendly Invitations
Going for a virtual invitation card is a great idea. You can also go with opting for invitations made using recycled paper, upcycled fabric, leather, and even wood. There are many celebrities who went with this great technique. Actress Sonam Kapoor opted for a virtual or e- invite for their wedding while Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli gifted a sapling along with their wedding invite to the guests. Similarly, TV actors Rubina and Abhinav opted for a biodegradable wedding invite like Virat-Anushka, made from MDF and recyclable paper. Along with that, they also attached a sapling.
3. Plastic Free Zone
There are a variety of biodegradable materials that you can use instead of plastics for a more environmentally friendly wedding. In one of the wedding receptions, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh also opted for this method and had a fully plastic free reception, instead of plastic they used biodegradable tableware products. You can use steel or any other reusable cutlery for serving food.
4. Use Venue As Decoration
Select a venue with an element you can use as a part of decoration. For example, Dia Mirza chose her garden of the house as the wedding venue. She used her favourite Mango tree as a part of the decor which looked absolutely gorgeous. You can do the same at a similar place. Also, ensure the ceremony is without plastics or any type of waste. Instead go for biodegradable and natural.
5. Eco- Friendly Attire
Go with a unique idea of biodegradable and organic attire and stun everyone. Just like Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar who went with 'bamboo-silk textile' outfits, you can do that too. The actor Milind Soman and wife Ankita Konwar went with organic, handwoven and 100% biodegradable outfits. They even opted for head jewelleries which were made with baby lotuses.
The activity that impressed us all by the couple was that they planted a tree for each guest, who attended their marriage, as a tribute to Mother Nature. These activities in the wedding might not be too much but surely contributes a lot to mother earth.
6. Donate Leftovers And Decorations
Discarded food, decor, and flowers are among the most common wastages at weddings. Instead of throwing it in the garbage, think about donating it. The decorations can also be resold. If you think there will be a lot of food left over, give your guests the option of taking the extra food home in containers.
Use these simple and small methods iwhile throwing a wedding function and contribute big to the environment.
