Our actresses and actors have often been bitten by the politics bug where some have fared well while some have bid farewell to it. However, today we are talking about actresses who have taken on the baton to fight Lok Sabha elections 2019. Here is a list compiled of actresses who have been on the wagon for a while and some are new entrants. Let's take a look.
Jaya Bachchan
Actress-MP Jaya Bachchan has been announced as the star campaigner for the Samajwadi Party for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Jaya was first elected in 2004 as the Member of Parliament from the same Party, where she represented Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha till March 2006. She got a second term from June 2006 till July 2010 and in February 2010 she announced that she intends on completing her term. However, she was re-elected in 2012 for the third term and again in 2018 for her fourth term in the Rajya Sabha from Samajwadi Party.
Hema Malini
She was elected by BJP to Rajya Sabha in 2009 and was known to be supportive of the party for a long time. During the general elections of 2014, she defeated Jayant Chaudhary claiming the seat for MP. This year, Hema is fighting for the Mathura Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket. The estimated value of her assets, considering her total wealth including bungalows, jewellery, cash, shares and term deposits, has turned out to be worth over Rs 101 crore, while five years ago before the 2014 general elections, her total assets had been valued at nearly Rs 66 crore.
The affidavit was submitted by her to the Election Commission of India while filing her nomination as Lok Sabha candidate from the Mathura parliamentary constituency.
Urmila Matondkar
Urmila is the new one to get bitten by the political bug as she has joined the Congress. She told media: "I am here because I believe in the ideology of Congress and what the party stands for. I have not joined the party for the sake of elections. I am here to stay." She expressed the fact that she felt the need to join the party as the freedom to express was under attack in the country and that there are a number of examples in the last five years.
“Today is a significant day for me as I have formally entered politics. My life has been inspired by Mahatma Gandhi from the days of my childhood."
