
Basant Panchami, also known as Saraswati Puja, is one of the most important festivals celebrated in the month of Magha. This day honours the birth of Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom, music, arts, science, and crafts. Devotees observe prayers and rituals to pay homage to the goddess.
The festival, also referred to as Shri Panchami, Magha Panchami, and Basant Panchami, marks the arrival of spring and is a celebration of knowledge, learning, and prosperity. We got in touch with Astrologer Pandit Arvind Tripathi, who shared the date for Saraswati Puja 2025, along with the auspicious timings, rituals, and significance of this auspicious occasion.
Basant Panchami holds great importance in Hinduism, as it is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, and music. Worshipping the goddess on this day is believed to enhance intelligence and lead to the attainment of knowledge.
According to the Hindu calendar, Basant Panchami is observed annually on the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Magh. As per Pandit Arvind Tripathi, in 2025, the Panchami Tithi will begin on February 2 at 9:14 am and conclude on February 3 at 6:52 am. Following the Udaya Tithi, Basant Panchami will be celebrated on February 2, 2025.

On February 2, 2025, the entire day is considered highly auspicious for gaining knowledge and wisdom through the blessings of Goddess Saraswati. However, the period between 7:09 am and 12:35 pm is particularly favourable worship, as per Pandit Arvind Tripathi.

According to mythology, Goddess Sharda, also known as Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, was born on this auspicious day, which is also celebrated as Saraswati Jayanti. Some people believe that on this sacred day, Goddess Saraswati used the melodious sound of her Veena to give voice to the entire universe. This divine act is said to have bestowed the power of speech upon all living beings. Saraswati Puja is considered an extremely auspicious occasion, particularly for children, as it is an ideal time for them to begin their journey of learning.
