Lakshmi Puja is performed on the darkest night of Diwali to welcome Goddess Lakshmi into one’s home and heart. The ritual symbolises cleansing negativity and inviting abundance, peace, and harmony. Devotees believe that a well-lit, clean home, sincere prayers, and pure food offerings attract the Goddess’s blessings for wealth and happiness.
It’s not only a spiritual ritual but also a reminder that prosperity thrives in purity, positivity, and gratitude.
The bhog (offering) holds a special place during the Lakshmi Puja. It represents devotion and the essence of sharing divine blessings with family and friends. Here are some traditional dishes offered to Goddess Lakshmi:
A wholesome, earthy dessert made with roasted semolina (or wheat flour), ghee, and jaggery syrup. Cook until it thickens, then garnish with dry fruits and saffron.
These golden delights are festive favourites. Made with gram flour, cardamom, and sugar syrup, they are shaped into soft, aromatic ladoos, a classic prasad of Diwali.
A creamy rice pudding made with milk, rice, sugar or jaggery, and flavoured with saffron and cardamom. Garnish with roasted nuts and offer slightly chilled.
A sacred blend of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar. Mix equal portions of milk and curd, add honey, melted ghee, and sugar or jaggery. Stir gently, garnish with chopped nuts and a touch of cardamom, and serve in a silver or copper bowl.
Seasonal fruits like bananas, pomegranates, apples, and oranges symbolise gratitude and purity. Arrange them neatly on a silver or brass thali before placing them on the altar.
As families gather for Lakshmi Puja 2025, these rituals and offerings embody gratitude, devotion, and togetherness. This Diwali, may the light of diyas guide Goddess Lakshmi into every home, bringing wealth, peace, and endless happiness.
