Bappi Lahiri, popularly known as ‘Bappi Da’, was one of the most prominent names in the Hindi film industry. He not only provided Bollywood with some of the greatest disco beats but he also sang some iconic chartbuster songs in his unique and mellifluous voice.

At the time, when many music composers liked to stay behind the camera, it was Bappi Lahiri who made himself a part of the spotlight. And despite the Disco King’s unfortunate demise, his work continues to live on forever.

So, today, we are looking back at some of the most memorable songs created by him.

1 Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost (Aap Ki Khatir)

‘Bambai se aaya mera dost’ from the movie ‘Aap Ki Khatir’ is one of the most popular songs sung by Bappi Lahiri. The film was released in 1977 and the song featured Vinod Khanna. In the 1980s and 90s, this song was hummed by every other kid.

To date, this song has not lost its charm, we might not remember which film was it from or which actors was it based on but most of us would surely know the tune and lyrics. This was the magic of Bappi Da’s bindaas voice!

10 Tune Maari Entriyaan (Gunday)

Another great peppy Bollywood number, ‘Tune Maari Entriyaan’ has been voiced by Bappi Lahiri, KK, Neeti Mohan, and Vishal Dadlani and is certainly a dance floor scorcher.

The song from the 2014 film ‘Gunday’ features Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and Arjun Kapoor. It became an instant hit because of its dance moves and lyrics.

Also, did we mention that the lyrics for the Bengali version of the song were penned by Bappi Lahiri along with Gautam Susmit?

Our Disco King was truly a genius!

2 I Am A Disco Dancer (Disco Dancer)

While Bappi Lahiri did not sing this song, he made it unforgettable with his distinct music composition. So much so, that it is still the ultimate dance number. ‘I am a Disco Dancer’ is a popular song from the movie ‘Disco Dancer’ starring Mithun Chakraborty.

The film was released in 1982 and this particular song was sung by Vijay Benedict. It became such a huge hit not only in India but in former Soviet Union countries as well. Surprising, isn’t it?

3 Yaad Aa Raha Hai (Disco Dancer)

From the movie ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Yaad Aa Raha Hai’ is a song that proves no one has mastered the art of blending melody with party beats as wonderfully as Bappi Lahiri. No wonder he is known as the Disco King!

This song was both composed and sung by Bappi Lahiri in the 1982 hit starring Mithun Chakraborty, Kim, and Rajesh Khanna. Not only this song, but the whole album was one of the biggest hits to date.

4 Auva Auva Koi Yahan Nache (Disco Dancer)

This song certainly needs no introduction. After all, who can forget Usha Uthup and Bappi Lahiri's voices in this song?

‘Auva Auva Koi Yahan Nache’ is another song from the movie ‘Disco Dancer’. No doubt, this movie commemorated the beginning of Disco culture in India. And this song was "inspired" by a pop anthem - Radio Killed The Video Star by The Buggles. Trust us, this dance song will make you groove!

5 Raat Baaqi Baat Baaqi (Namak Halaal)

Looks like 1982 was the year of Bappi Da! ‘Raat Baaqi Baat Baaqi’ was a super hit song from the film ‘Namak Halaal’. Parveen Babi’s screen presence in this song exuded unparalleled magnetism.

Further, the song was beautifully sung by Asha Bhosle and written by Anjaan but Bappi Da’s catchy composition elevated it to new heights. Believe us, this tune is so appealing that sooner or later, you will end up humming it.

6 Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re (Saaheb)

You won’t be able to get this song from the 1985 film 'Saaheb' out of your head! Starring Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh, this track is packed with disco music and beats in true Bappi Da style. Also, this peppy number works both as a love song as well as a party track.

Do you remember the dream sequence and all that bling? No? Then, go and watch this song again!

The song has made such a mark in the history of Bollywood that the creators of ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan' incorporated a remake of it in their 2020 film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar.

7 Tamma Tamma (Thanedaar)

Now, you've got to admit that no one can ever forget the beats of the songs composed by Bappi Da. And this applies to ‘Tamma Tamma’ as well.

This famous song was from the 1990 film ‘Thanedaar’ starring ever-so-gorgeous Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. It features the voices of Anuradha Paudwal and Bappi Lahiri. It has been said that this track was inspired by Guinean musician Mory Kante’s tracks.

Now, Tamma Tamma was also recreated after decades in Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer film Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

8 Boombai Nagariya (Taxi No. 9 2 11)

‘Taxi No. 9 2 11’ was one of the highest-grossing films of 2006 and the song ‘Boombai Nagariya’ added to its success. This song was sung by Bappi Da and is one of the newer tracks that he had worked on.

The film stars Nana Patekar and John Abraham in lead roles and the music is composed by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani. But no doubt, Bappi Da’s mazzedaar singing style still has us hooked to the song!

9 Ooh La La (The Dirty Picture)

Tell us honestly that only reading the name of this song makes you want to hum it, right? Don’t worry, we all are in the same boat, my friend.

Listening to the song ‘Ooh La La’ from ‘The Dirty Picture’ truly takes us to the era of the 1980s.

From Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah’s colourful clothes to the extravagant settings to the melody and Bappi Da singing ‘Tu hai meri fantasy’, this makes it one such amazing number.
