Artificial Intelligence just became more affordable for Indian users! OpenAI has officially rolled out a low-cost ChatGPT subscription in India, giving millions access to advanced AI at pocket-friendly rates. Let’s explore the new ChatGPT subscription rates, how to sign up, and why this launch is set to transform India’s AI experience in 2025.
OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Go: Tailored Subscription for the Indian Market
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Go, its most accessible subscription plan to date, exclusively for Indian users. Priced at ₹399 per month (£3.10 / $4.60), this refined tier arrives as a considered alternative to the ₹1,999 Plus plan. This plan is launched to make premium artificial intelligence attainable to a broader audience without much compromise on sophistication.
What Will Users Get WithChatGPT Go?
Under the Go plan, subscribers are granted tenfold increases in messages, image generations, and file uploads, along with double the memory retention compared to the free tier. This ensures smoother, more personalised interactions, whether you are generating documents, crafting visuals, or handling analytical tasks.
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, remarked that affordability has been a “key ask from users.” India, with its vast and vibrant digital base, has therefore been chosen as the launchpad before Go eventually extends to other regions.

OpenAI has also shifted its subscription framework to local currency pricing, eliminating the inconsistencies of conversion rates. More significantly, for the first time, subscriptions can be purchased using UPI (Unified Payments Interface),India’s most trusted and widely used digital payment system. This seamless integration reduces barriers and ensures users can get the new upgrade with a single tap.
India is no longer merely a passive consumer of AI innovation; it stands as OpenAI’s second-largest market. With over 29 million downloads of the ChatGPT app in the past 90 days, the country leads global adoption. Yet, revenue has lagged behind with only$3.6 million generated in the same period. The Go plan emerges as a deliberate solution to this imbalance, nudging more users towards subscriptions.
OpenAI has emphasised that usage limits may flex according to system conditions to preserve a smooth user experience. Nevertheless, the Go plan remains a highly practical offering for students, freelancers, and professionals who outgrow the free tier but may not require the full suite of Plus or Pro features.
