Royal Baby Gets A Name: Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Name Their Boy Archie

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Wednesday presented to the world their newborn son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Meghan and Harry put an end to the anticipation over their newborn baby's name with an Instagram announcement. The royal couple made an appearance in front of the cameras inside Windsor Castle to show off their son, where Meghan was quoted as saying, "He's just been a dream."

"He has the sweetest temperament. He's really calm," added the Duchess with Prince Harry by her side cradling the newborn, wrapped in a white blanket.

The royal family's official Instagram handle too posted the name of the young prince and wrote, "The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were introduced to the newborn son of The Duke & Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle. Ms Doria Ragland was also present. The Duke & Duchess of Sussex are delighted to announce that they have named their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor."

Harry and Meghan's firstborn is believed to be the first mixed-race child born to a senior member of the royal family in centuries.

Earlier bookies had settled on Alexander, Arthur, James, Philip and Spencer as the most likely options for the newborns name.

Archie on its part has German origin and was originally a short version of Archibald which developed into a wholly different name over the centuries. The name basically means, 'bold' and 'brave'.

Earlier, Prince Harry’s elder brother Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton gave an official statement saying that they were overjoyed with the birth of the baby are excited to meet him soon. The elder prince, according to an Instagram post, cheekily added, “We’re absolutely thrilled – welcome to the Sleep Deprivation Society!”    

Meghan Markle gave birth to baby Archie on Monday, May 6. Soon after his birth Prince Harry spoke to the media, where he was all praises for his wife Meghan Markle and women in general while announcing the birth of their son. The royal who said that he could not comprehend how any woman could go through labour, hailing their strength, added, the child had been "a little overdue" and that he planned to make another announcement in two days' time "so everyone can see the baby".

Asked what it was like to be present for the birth, Prince Harry laughed and said: "I haven't been at many births. This is definitely my first birth. It was amazing, absolutely incredible, and, as I said, I'm so incredibly proud of my wife."

"As every father and parent will ever say, you know, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to-die-for, so I'm just over the moon."

He added, "It's been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined."

"How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension," the Royal said of his wife, and women at large.

The baby is seventh-in-line to the British throne. The newborn is the Queen‘s eighth great-grandchild. The child, however, is not automatically a prince or a princess as any such title will have to be bestowed by the queen by issuing what is known as a letter patent.
