An Indian model and film actress well known in Bollywood, Amrita Rao turns 38 today. The actor who debuted in the 2002 film ‘Ab Ke Baras’ got immense recognition for her role in 2003's ‘Ishq Vishq’.  In fact, the film saw her being nominated for the Best Female Debut Award in 2003. However, it was her stellar performance as a soft-spoken girl alongside Shahid Kapoor in ‘Vivah’ that made her very popular.

The actor hails from a traditional Konkani family but was born and brought up in Mumbai. Her father is a businessman.

Amrita Rao's first public appearance was in Alisha Chinoy's music video ‘Woh Pyar Mera’.

Amrita Rao has a younger sister Preetika, who is an actress as well. Preetika, who has modeled and been a journalist, has also played the role of Aaliya in fiction show ‘Beintehaa’ on Colors.

When Amrita was mere 16 years old, she had a crush on cricketer Nayan Mongia.

Apart from Hindi and English, Amrita can also speak Konkani and Marathi fluently.

Amrita Rao got married to her long-term boyfriend RJ Anmol on May 15, 2016. The news about their wedding was announced by Anmol on his Facebook page as he posted a picture with the ‘Vivah’ actress.

Legendary artist MF Hussain had called Rao his second muse, eleven years after he painted Madhuri Dixit and had gone on to make several paintings dedicated to the actress' role in ‘Vivah’.

According to media reports, Amrita Rao and Esha Deol had a huge catfight on the sets of the film ‘Pyare Mohan’ in 2016. Apparently, Rao passed some snide comment on Esha, who on a fit of rage, had slapped her.

Not a lot of people know this but Amrita had once denied a film with Salman Khan. Turns out the makers of the Salman Khan starrer ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’ had approached Amrita, but she denied the film as the role was for Salman Khan's sister.  The role finally went to Swara Bhaskar.

According to a TOI report, the actor is related to the legendary Guru Dutt. Turns out, Amrita Rao's grandfather and Guru Dutt were second cousins. The actress has even gone on to say that Dutt was a major influence behind her foraying into cinema.

Reports say that Rao had once been offered a Yash Raj film opposite Ranbir Kapoor.  The actor, however, refused since there was a kissing scene involved.
