What went down at the ICC Women's World Cup's final match

Batting first, Indian made a domineering 298/7, due to Shfali Verma's 87 runs, Deepti Sharma's 58 runs and other valuable contributions by Smriti Mandhana (45) and Richa Ghosh (34). A strong 100-run opening between Mandhana and Verma set the stage for the big total before South Africa was able to keep India just below the 300-mark.

Chasing 299, South Africa's innings began solid as Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt made an opening partnership of 50 runs. But a hit from Amanjot Kaur ended Brits' stay, which made India maintain its momentum.

Young pacer Sree Charani shone in her first over by trapping Anneka Bosch in an LBW, before Shafai Verma's struck a spell, removing Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp out of the match.

Deepti Sharma then delivered a performance of a lifetime, claiming 5 for 29, crushing South AFrica's middle order. The South African side got out at 246 runs in 45.3 overs, as India won the match with a 52-run victory.

At the end, the tricolour waved in the wind, while the players wept tears of joy, proving a new dawn for Indian women's cricket.
