KBC Contestant Controversy: The recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 17 featuring 10-year-old Ishit Bhatt has sparked a heated debate across India. Known for his quick wit and confidence, Ishit’s behaviour on the show left viewers divided. While some praised his knowledge and courage, many criticised his manners and the way he spoke to the host, Amitabh Bachchan. This incident has opened up a larger conversation about parenting, discipline, polite conduct in children, and the balance between knowledge and respect in kids these days.
Ten-year-old Ishit Bhatt, a Class 5 student from Gujarat, appeared on KBC and repeatedly insisted he knew the rules, refusing explanations from host Amitabh Bachchan. Ishit Bhatt started his KBC appearance by telling Amitabh Bachchan not to explain the game rules to him. “Mereko rules pata hain issiliye aap abhi mereko rules samjhane mat baithna (I know the rules, so don’t explain them to me),” he informed the host. Later he tone became rude, where we can see him saying “Option ke bina bol raha hun, lock karo ‘dance’. Jo bhi option hai lock karo.” During the next question, he said, “Sir aap sawal toh poocho (Sir, just ask the qustion).”
The youngster’s tone was perceived by many viewers as disrespectful, especially in interaction with a senior figure. The 10-year-old answered the first few questions, but he got stuck when he reached the Rs 25,000 question.

Much of the backlash was directed not at Ishit alone, but at his upbringing. Many viewers insisted that knowledge alone is not enough if a child lacks humility, respect, and social manners. Comments ranged from “confidence without manners is useless” to sharp criticism of the parents’ role in shaping behaviour.
what a satisfying end

And no, not blaming the kid—blame the parents. Raise a child without humility, patience, or manners, and you get a tiny dictator in the making. Losing even a single rupee? Bet it stings more than a reality check ever could. 😏#KBC pic.twitter.com/Uf8XitnJri

Smart kid, but this video reminds us, no matter how intelligent we are, humility always wins hearts. ❤️#KBC #LifeLesson pic.twitter.com/cbej4zZoHS

The kid was arrogant, yet Amit ji stayed calm and composed. His experience of dealing with Jaya Bachchan paid off 😭#AmitabhBachchan #KBC #meme #KaunBanegaCrorepati #Valmiki pic.twitter.com/4H5pCeLhjA

At the same time, some voices offered a more empathetic view: children are under huge pressure when they appear on national television, and harsh public condemnation of a young kid may be unfair. On October 13, 2025, Singer Chinmayi Sripaada, reacted to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) featuring the kid's photo with a caption “most hated kid on the internet.” To this she wrote, “An adult putting a tweet saying most hated kid. Adults here on Twitter have been one of the most lousy, foul-mouthed, abusive lot; none of these voices said a thing when kids died due to a cough syrup. But yeah, pick on a kid. Says a LOT about the ecosystem. This entire lot is picking on one over-excited kid — what a horrible bunch of bullies they’ve raised themselves to be.”

A child speaking up confidently may cross into being perceived as rude if the tone or context is not handled sensitively. The line is subtle, especially in front of national audiences.
In many cultures, especially in India, respect for elders and polite behaviour are deeply valued. When a child’s knowledge overshadows these norms, it triggers discomfort and criticism among older generations.
This incident reminds us that alongside academic or intellectual nurturing, parents must also teach children emotional intelligence, patience, and how to adapt their behaviour to social settings.
Reality television can magnify even small missteps. Children on stage are placed in high-stakes, pressure environments. The instant viral reach means that a child’s momentary lapse becomes a national talking point.
The KBC episode is not just about one child’s conduct. It’s a mirror reflecting tensions in modern parenting, where pushing for excellence sometimes overshadows lessons in empathy and humility. Social media reacted instantly, while some labelled him rude, others dismissed him as simply immature. Yet, beyond the viral clip lies something deeper, a reflection of how we raise and perceive children today.
It’s not just about one boy’s words but about the fine line between confidence and courtesy. As society evolves, the challenge is to raise children who are both intellectually confident and socially graceful.
