How To Get Rid Of Rust?
Rust on steel curtain rods not only makes your steel items look dirty and hard to use, but it can also cause rust corrosion to grow with time, weakening the metal. To avoid that, here are some methods using household products:
Use Lemon And Salt For Light Rust
With a wire bristle brush, scrub away any loose rust flakes. Using a knife, cut a lemon or lime in half. Apply a substantial amount of salt to every rusted area. Now, squeeze some juice of the lemon or lime split in half over the salt. Wait 30 minutes to an hour before scrubbing the rust with the lemon or lime rind. Then, rinse the metal with water and then dry it with a towel.
It may take numerous applications of salt and lemon/lime juice before the rust is gone completely. So repeat the process as needed. This approach works well for removing mild rust stains.
White Vinegar Bath
Erase heavy rust with a white vinegar bath. Take saturated rags in white vinegar and wrap these around the rusty areas of the rod. Leave them on overnight. Next day, rinse the rod in water and dry it using a towel. You will see desired results.
The longer you will leave the rod with vinegar, the more effective it will be. Soak heavily rusted items for longer periods of time. To remove stubborn rust, repeat the process as needed.
