Tips To Choose The Right Window Style: Windows play a much bigger role in a home than we often realise. They don’t just let in light and fresh air, they shape the mood of a room, add to its style, and even influence comfort and energy use. Picking the right window style for each space can make a huge difference, whether it’s creating a bright and welcoming living room or a well-ventilated kitchen.
To guide us through the process, we spoke to Ankit Modi, Director at Durakraft Extrusions, for expert advice on selecting the perfect windows for every space. Here are a few tips on how to pick the perfect window style for every room in your home so that beauty and functionality go hand in hand:
For the living room, which is often the heart of the home, windows should make a statement while allowing plenty of natural light. Ankit Modi suggests, “Opting for large-scale sliding or picture windows that feel open and let in lots of bright daylight, and take full advantage of the views of your garden which also creates a bright and airy atmosphere.”
Large windows also help connect the indoors with the outdoors, while sliding uPVC windows or casement windows offer good ventilation without taking up extra space. Bright living room windows not only enhance aesthetics but also reduce energy costs by lowering the need for artificial lighting.
In the kitchen, functionality is key. Windows need to provide ventilation while being easy to clean. Ankit Modi recommends, “Sliding or awning windows are helpful as they allow air flow and ventilation whilst keeping rain and unwanted smells from the food prep area.”
Small hopper windows above countertops are also ideal. Using materials like aluminium or uPVC ensures low maintenance and durability, making kitchen windows both practical and stylish.
Bedrooms, on the other hand, require a balance of light, privacy, and comfort. According to Modi, casement or double-hung windows with tinted or frosted glass offer privacy while maintaining natural light.
Bay windows can create cozy nooks for reading or relaxation, and it’s important to choose sizes that accommodate curtains or blinds. The right bedroom windows create a restful, comfortable environment while complementing the room’s design.

Bathrooms need compact, moisture-resistant windows that provide privacy and ventilation. Modi advises frosted or obscure glass sliding windows or fixed-shaped windows, which offer privacy with natural light.
Frames made of aluminium or vinyl resist humidity and corrosion, ensuring that bathroom windows remain functional and stylish over time. Proper bathroom windows also help prevent bacteria and maintain a hygienic space.

Finally, for studies or home offices, windows should provide ample light while minimising glare. Modi suggests tilt-and-turn or casement windows positioned to reduce screen reflections.
Double-glazed windows can help block outside noise, creating a quiet, focused work environment. The right windows in a study enhance productivity, comfort, and the overall aesthetic of the space.
Choosing the right window style for each room is a combination of functionality, aesthetics, and comfort. By matching window types to each room’s specific needs, you can enhance the style, efficiency, and overall feel of your home.
