Sona Mohapatra, who made the history of sorts by being chosen as the first female judge of the iconic Sa Re Ga Ma Pa music show, but later backed out due to prior commitments, turns 44 tomorrow. The singer, who hails from Cuttack, Odisha, has performed across the world and has many Bollywood songs, advertisements, music videos and singles under her belt. Mohapatra has also recorded remixes of songs by David Bowie, with "Let's Dance", and INXS with "Afterglow", with the latter proving to be quite successful.
Apart from her music, Mohapatra is controversy's second child as well. In October 2018, she became one of the first big names in Bollywood to come out in support of #MeToo movement when she accused singer Kailash Kher and Anu Malik, of sexual misconduct.
Not only that, but Mohapatra also came under fire when Madariya Sufi Foundation threatened Sona after they found one of her Sufi songs objectionable. At that time, the singer had tweeted, “Dear @MumbaiPolice I have received a threatening notice from the Madariya Sufi Foundation to remove my music video Tori Surat from all communication mediums. They claim that the video is vulgar, will flare communal tensions. I need to know whom to write in my response to at ur end.”
Respected @CPMumbaiPolice , I have been sent a threatening email notice from the Madariya Sufi Foundation demanding that I take down a music video that has been passed by the censor board of India & I would like to forward the same to your official email id along with my response
