Sona Mohapatra, who made the history of sorts by being chosen as the first female judge of the iconic Sa Re Ga Ma Pa music show, but later backed out due to prior commitments, turns 44 tomorrow.  The singer, who hails from Cuttack, Odisha, has performed across the world and has many Bollywood songs, advertisements, music videos and singles under her belt. Mohapatra has also recorded remixes of songs by David Bowie, with "Let's Dance", and INXS with "Afterglow", with the latter proving to be quite successful.

Apart from her music, Mohapatra is controversy's second child as well. In October 2018, she became one of the first big names in Bollywood to come out in support of #MeToo movement when she accused singer Kailash Kher and Anu Malik, of sexual misconduct. 

 

Not only that, but Mohapatra also came under fire when Madariya Sufi Foundation threatened Sona after they found one of her Sufi songs objectionable. At that time, the singer had tweeted, “Dear @MumbaiPolice I have received a threatening notice from the Madariya Sufi Foundation to remove my music video Tori Surat from all communication mediums. They claim that the video is vulgar, will flare communal tensions. I need to know whom to write in my response to at ur end.”

 

 

 

Recently, Sona Mohapatra received a death threat after she lashed out at Salman Khan for constantly taking digs at Priyanka Chopra for leaving Bharat.

Furthermore, sharing the box office report of the actor’s recent release ‘Bharat’, Sona requested fans to “stop worshipping these paper tiger” claiming”.

Sona tweeted, “Q. What do you call filmi superstars that don’t even deliver a single, full week of returns in the public domain despite all the hype, promotions & posturing? A. Paper Tigers (P.S: Stop worshipping these paper tigers dear #India. Let’s find & BE more worthy ‘heroes’.”

  • Chayee Madhoshiyan from the film ‘Jumbo’ is a romantic duet with Sonu Nigam and was one of Mohapatra's first songs in Bollywood. The singer’s first song in the industry was a beautiful lullaby sung by the actor for the film ‘Family’.  
  • The 2010 romantic film ‘I Hate Luv Stories’ had the song ‘Bahara’ which saw Mohapatra sing alongside Shreya Ghosal. The peppy music number directed by had Imran and Sonam Kapoor in it. 
  • The song Bedardi Raja, composed by Ram Sampath is considered to be one of Mohapatra's best songs.  The song has folk overtones and makes use of ethnic instruments in its composition. 
  • The psychedelic composition from the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Talaash’, Mohapatra's song Jiya Lage Na, is a wonderful amalgamation of eastern vocals with western instrumentation. 
  • Ambarsariya from the film ‘Fukrey’ was another amazing track by the singer. Composed by her husband Ram Sampath, the composition had an eccentric quality by it.
