Govardhan Puja is a part of the five-day festival, Diwali, in the Hindu religion. It is celebrated in honour of Lord Krishna and cows after Diwali and before Bhaidooj. The devotees worship the cows on this day with the belief that they are a form of Maa Lakshmi. This year, Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on November 13.
According to the scriptures, Lord Shri Krishna honoured Indra and worshipped Giriraj and since then, it has become a tradition.
The devotees make a statuette of Govardhan with cow dung and worshipped in the celebration of the festival. After that, they take full circles around the totem to perform Parikrama.
