Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap Opens Up About Struggle with Depression And Mental Health Issues

Recently Anurag Kashyap’s Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat had its world premiere at the ongoing Marrakech Film Festival. The 19th edition of the film festival was organised in Morocco from November 11, 2022 to November 19, 2022. Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat will be presented outdoors at Marrakech's Jemaa El Fna Square. In a recent interview given to Indian Express, Anurag opened up about his battle with depression.

After the shooting of his movie Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat was delayed due to the lockdown and his web series Tandav encountered legal issues, Kashyap said that he entered a dark period in his personal life. After that, the director claims, he absolutely withdrew within himself, which eventually led him to stop using Twitter. Anurag Kashyap thereafter had to make three rehab visits. The director's health also began to deteriorate, and he had a heart attack. He had an angioplasty last year.

Anurag Kashyap Take On Returning To Films

Kashyap also spoke about recuperating and returning to films after a brief break due to his health concerns. He said, "Unlike other people, I don’t have the luxury to sit and wait.” He added that he does not direct massive projects that can sustain him and his crew for a long time.

Anurag Kashyap Was Mentally Hurt When Daughter Attacked on Twitter

Kashyap also mentioned how his daughter had been abused on Twitter (All You Need To Know About Elon Musk’s Twitter Take-Over). He claimed that after he spoke out against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019, his daughter began to get threats of rape.

He said that he deleted his Twitter account after experiencing severe emotional trauma that led to a heart attack the previous year. He further revealed that as a result of those threats, his daughter Aliyah Kashyap has anxiety problems.

Work Front

He last directed Do Baaraa movie which had Taapsee Pannu as a lead. He will also be releasing a new romantic movie known as Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat which stars Alaya F and Karan Mehta as the leads in the film. It is set to release next year in 2023.
