Chup: Dulquer Salmaan Starrer Registers Second-Highest Advance Bookings This Year

Starring Dulquer Salmaan, Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt, and Shreya Dhanwanthary, Chup: Revenge of the Artist has registered the second highest advance bookings this year. The film has received only positive reviews from audiences and film critics.

Directed by R. Balki, Chup: Revenge of the Artist has outperformed several big titles and Bollywood A-listers’ films such as Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Laal Singh Chaddha, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani starrer JugJugg Jeeyo, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera and the Hindi version of RRR. WithNational Cinema Day on Friday, September 23, 2022, and tickets sold at a discounted price of just ₹75, cinema halls are seeing a massive footfall across the country; cinema halls have struggled throughout the year with blockbusters falling flat at the box office.

Chup: Revenge of the Artist has pre-sold1.3 lakh tickets in advance bookings in the three national chains while 83 had pre-sold 1.17 lakh tickets, JugJugg Jeeyo pre-sold 57,000 tickets, and the Hindi version of RRR pre-sold 1.05 lakh tickets. The film has also reportedly outperformed Gangubai Kathiawadi, Samrat Prithviraj, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (all A rated films).

Salmaan has been praised as the most “intriguing” element of the movie and the film is sailing through robustly because of its unique storyline, as per the reviews. “What a blessing on #NationalCinemaDay, we hv classical movie like #chup. It was very unique and grt experience of watching it. @dulQuer just nailed it with his performance. #SunnyDeol is rocking as always. Truly blessing for cinema lovers. @shreyadhan13 has bright future,” wrote one user.

While film critic Bharadwaj Rangan wrote, “R Balki’s engaging serial killer-thriller/romance, starring Sunny Deol, Dulquer Salmaan and Shreya Dhanwanthary, is aptly named #Chup -- for it asks film critics to be good at their job, or else shut up!”

Filmmakers Raj & DK wrote, “Great fun watching #Chup last night! A quirky one-of-a-kind meta experience! Unpredictable and irreverent! @dulQuer literally kills it with the various shades of his character. @shreyadhan13 aces it as the film buff that all of us want to be. (1)

As per filmmaker Alankrita Srivastava, the film is “funny, fresh, whimsical and very engaging.”

Chup: Revenge of the Artist is an ode to actor and filmmaker Guru Dutt. The film revolves around a psychopath killer who is targeting film critics in the city of Mumbai. Film critics are being murdered week after week with the release of a new film in a bizarre series of events and the Mumbai Crime Branch is tasked to solve the case with the help of a criminal psychologist.

However, on the occasion of National Cinema Day, Brahmāstra has nearly 6 lakh advance bookings shattering all 2022 records. KGF: Chapter 2 and Baahubali 2 had pre-sold 5.15 lakh and 6.5 lakh tickets respectively. Shows are getting sold out rapidly with the incentivised prices.
