India is all set to celebrate its first-ever National Cinema Day (NCD) this week, on September 23, 2022. The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) along with several cinemas across the country organised a special campaign, where moviegoers can watch films at ₹75 per ticket along with other “special surprises” planned to celebrate the day. This will be available at over 4000 cinema halls and theatres across the country.
The movie theatre chains that are actively participating in the campaign include PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Carnival, Miraj, City Pride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movietime, Wave, M2K, and Delite along with several single-screen theatres. Regular seat tickets will cost ₹75 while reclining seat tickets will cost ₹100 to ₹200, and lower IMAX ticket prices as well.
The films you can watch include two new releases (Brahmāstra and Jahaan Chaar Yaar), two older Hindi releases (Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Chup), two pan India releases (RRR and KGF: Chapter 2), and two Hollywood releases (Doctor Strange and Top Gun Maverick).
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva is a fantasy adventure serving as the first in the Brahmāstra trilogy. The film is meant to set up its own cinematic universe titled Astraverse. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead and Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles. The film released on September 9 and collected ₹200 crores worldwide within its first weekend.
Jahaan Chaar Yaar
Marking the directorial debut of writer Kamal Pandey, Jahaan Chaar Yaar, starring Swara Bhasker, Meher Vij, Shikha Talsania, and Pooja Chopra, is about an all-girls Goa trip. The film narrates the story of four middle-class women, who are housewives. They usually only visit places like Vaishnodevi and other pilgrims with their families, but have a desire to go on a girls’ trip to Goa and Switzerland.
An S.S. Rajamouli directorial, the pan-Indian film RRR, starring Junior NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgn, is one of the biggest box office hits of 2022. Set in the 1920s, the film revolves around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR), and their fight against the British Raj. It explores the undocumented period in their lives when both the revolutionaries chose to go into hiding before they began the fight for their country.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
The 2022 Hindi comedy horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, released in May 2022 and was one of the biggest box office hits of the year till that point. Sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa starring Akshay Kumar, the film collected over ₹250 crores approximately.
KGF: Chapter 2
KGF: Chapter 2 is a Kannada period action film that had a pan India release with an ensemble cast of Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, and Prakash Raj. Produced on a budget of ₹100 crore, K.G.F: Chapter 2 is the most expensive Kannada film ever made and has collected around ₹1,200 to ₹1,250 crores approx.
Written and directed by R. Balki, Chup: Revenge of the Artist is a psychological crime thriller film starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. The film also features Sunny Deol with Shreya Dhanwanthary and Pooja Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film has already received positive reviews and the internet is all praises for Salmaan’s acting.
