The most auspicious period for performing the evening rituals, known as the Pradosh Kaal muhurat, is from 05:15 pm to 07:50 pm. During this time, devotees light diyas (earthen lamps) along the ghats and in their homes to welcome the divine presence.
According to Hindu mythology, a powerful demon named Tripurasura had conquered the three worlds, causing chaos. Lord Shiva, in his form as Tripurari, destroyed the demon and restored peace to heaven and earth. To commemorate this victory, according to mythology, on this day, the gods descended to the holy city of Varanasi to celebrate Shiva's victory, hence it is called Dev Deepawali.
