Comedian Raju Srivastava Passes Away At 58 In AIIMS

After battling with critical health conditions for more than a month, Raju Srivastava passed away at AIIMS today.

Raju Srivastav, the actor, comedian and politician, died on September 21 after he suffered a massive heart attack on August 10. 

Raju Srivastava’s Health

The late comedian collapsed while running on a treadmill and since then he had been unconscious except for a few moments when there was a slight stir in his feet. He was admitted to the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi and has been in a very delicate and critical condition since Wednesday night. Srivastav’s blood pressure had dropped drastically on Wednesday evening which was stabilized but the condition only worsened from there.

Born in Kanpur to a poet father, the late actor and comedian had begun his career with small roles in Bollywood films such as Maine Pyar Kiya, Baazigar, Bombay To Goa, and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. Srivastav finally ventured into the world of stand-up comedy with the Indian reality series The Great Indian Laughter Challenge which aired on Star One from 2005 to 2008.

Srivastav had finished as a second runner-up in the show and had won the title of ‘The King of Comedy’ in the spin-off of the same, titled The Great Indian Laughter Challenge- Champions. Later in 2009, the late comedian also participated in the third season of the Colors reality show Bigg Boss. Srivastav, in 2011, had also participated in the comedy show titled Comedy Ka Maha Muqabla

Srivastav cut his teeth into politics in 2014 with the Samajwadi Party ticket for the 2014 Lok Sabha election. He later returned the ticket citing reasons of low support from the locals and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the same year. He was a part of the prime minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and was often seen promoting cleanliness through events in various cities across the country.

Several celebrities and politicians from around the country have poured in tributes and condolences following his demise. 

The late comedian is survived by his wife Shikha and two children Antara and Ayushman.
