Breastfeeding is a natural bodily function that almost every mother does to feed their newborn children. The mother's milk is the perfect nourishment for her infant as it contains all the essential nutrients needed for the healthy growth and development of the baby during the initial months. It's a beautiful process that also builds a special bond between the two of them. However breastfeeding in public still remains a tremendous social stigma in several countries, including India. 

Our strong and incredible celeb moms, on the other hand, chose to defy the odds and fight the stigma around breastfeeding. By sharing the pictures of breastfeeding their babies, these celebrities did their bit to normalise feeding a baby breast milk in public.

Evelyn Sharma

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani fame actress Evelyn Sharma recently gave birth to a baby girl in November 2021 and named her Ava. She recently shared a picture with the little one where she was seen breastfeeding her baby girl. It was a beautiful post with a caption that read, "When you thought you finally established a routine and then she starts #clusterfeeding!!" Along with the caption, she added the hashtags #smileforthecamera, #thingsnoonewarnsyouabout and #mummylife.

However, the internet was not kind to the new mother and netizens started trolling her for posting a picture like that. But Evelyn Sharma, in a gorgeous way ridiculous trolling with a perfect response.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, the actress spoke on the kind of trolling that happens with photos of mothers breastfeeding their kids. She said, "Such images show vulnerability and strength at the same time. I find it beautiful. Breastfeeding is one of the most natural and healthy things to do. And it really is why women have breasts in the first place. So why be shy about it?"

Neha Dhupia

Actress Neha Dhupia shared a powerful photo of herself breastfeeding her child in an attempt to normalise breastfeeding. On October 3, she gave birth to her second child, a baby boy. In the picture, she is wearing a grey maternity attire and feeding her baby son. Along with the photo, she wrote '#freedomtofeed' in caption.

On International Breastfeeding Week in 2019, Neha started a campaign called Freedom To Feed, which aimed to provide new moms the freedom to feed their kids in public without being judged. Since the birth of her first kid in 2018, the actress has actively promoted breastfeeding awareness.

Lisa Haydon

Lisa Haydon welcomed her third child last year and shared the first images of her newborn daughter, Lara, with her fans and followers. She shared the post to honour the breastfeeding week. She shared a series of beautiful photos of herself breastfeeding the baby. She captioned the post reading, "Was it just world breastfeeding week? In honour of this special week Lara would like to thank everyone that has given her a seat at the table✌🏽✌🏽"

Padma Lakshmi

Just before International Mother’s Day in 2018, Padma Lakshmi, an Indian American author, activist, model, and television host, shared a photo of herself breastfeeding her daughter Krishna on twitter mid make-up application. Along with the post, she wrote a powerful quote as a caption that read, "We live in a society where a mother catches less hell for giving her toddler a coke than she does for giving her toddler Breastmilk. I am working to change that in my lifetime. – Deanna Decker"

Ekta Kaul

In May of last year, the 34-year-old actress Ekta Kaul and her spouse Sumeet Vyas had their first child, Ved. Welcoming the World Breastfeeding week, she posted a picture on Instagram encouraging women's right to breastfeed their babies whenever and wherever they want.

In the picture,  she was breastfeeding her son. Along with the picture was a caption by the actress that read, “Happy breastfeeding week everyone. Let’s protect, promote and support breast feeding if it’s your choice as a mother. And let’s support the right of women to breastfeed anywhere and at any time.”

These wonderful women did their part in helping to normalise breastfeeding in public. Breastfeeding is an important part of the motherhood journey, and it should be cherished as much as any other aspect of motherhood.
