According to a recent announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the government is planning to invest in Canadian workers and youth for which, it will be taking a bold initiative. After Statistics Canada revealed the increasing unemployment rate among Canadian youths which has hit a worrying 6.4 per cent in July, its highest point in over two years, many are left wondering when opportunities will improve.

“We’re reducing the number of low-wage, temporary foreign workers in Canada,” read one of the posts by Justin Trudeau on X, formerly known as Twitter. He added, “The labour market has changed. Now is the time for our businesses to invest in Canadian workers and youth.”

In a recent press conference, Trudeau mentioned, “It’s not fair to Canadians struggling to find a good job, and it’s not fair to those temporary foreign workers, some of whom are being mistreated and exploited,” as per a report by BBC.

According to a report by Reuters, he also said, “We're looking at the various streams to make sure that as we move forward, Canada remains a place that is positive in its support for immigration, but also responsible in the way we integrate and make sure there are pathways to success for everyone who comes to Canada,” during an interaction with the press. Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, said, “The Temporary Foreign Worker program was designed to address labour market shortages when qualified Canadians were not able to fill those roles. Right now, we know that there are more Canadians qualified to fill open positions. The changes we are making today will prioritise Canadian workers and ensure Canadians can trust the program is meeting the needs of our economy.”
