It may be an overseas show with the most badass cliff-hangers but Game Of Thrones has as many plot twists and turns as an Ekta Kapoor show, if not more. The hype around the show refuses to die down and there have been different types of people in the world based on it – 1.Those who have read the book and seen the show 2.Those who saw it for the hype 3.Those who left midway 4.Those who saw and were a snob about it 5.Those who didn’t see it and were a snob about it. Phew! And now the teaser trailer for the 8th and final season of the show is out. So if you are one of those people who are feeling left out and want to start watching the show because it’s now or never then hang on tight as we explain the basics.

The setting of the show is in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos where there are several kingdoms. Most of them are enemies but some are allies too. In the northern part, separated by a huge wall, there is a frozen land inhabited by scary zombie-like creatures called White Walkers who are almost impossible to kill. The story is mainly about 3 families – The Starks (the goody-good gang), The Targaryens (powerhouse and original rulers of the iron throne) and The Lannisters (scheming plotters) who are always fighting for the Iron Throne.

The Starks (Ned & Catelyn) have 5 kids: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon plus an illegitimate son Jon Snow. They are visited by Ned’s friend King Robert Baratheon and all hell breaks loose as Ned’s son catches his wife (Lady Cersei Lannister) having a cosy moment (oops!) with her own brother (Sir Jamie Lannister)! What happens afterwards is for you to watch and enjoy.
The Targaryens are shown to be a brother-sister duo of Viserys and Daenerys who are out to reclaim their right to rule. After her brother marries her to a tribal king (Khal Drogo), she rises as the queen of the tribe and also becomes mother to 3 dragons.
The Lannisters including Lady Cersei, Jamie, Tyrion and Joffrey are the most cunning lot with each member of the family plotting against the other and also trying to kill anyone they don’t like.
