According to the story of the birth of Mata Saraswati, during the creation of the world, Brahma ji created man on the orders of Lord Vishnu. However, Brahma ji was not satisfied with his creation and the whole atmosphere was silent with sadness.
This made Brahma ji sprinkle water from his Kamandal and as soon as those water particles fell, the goddess appeared in the form of a beautiful woman from the trees. She had a Veena in one hand and a book in the other. The third hand had a garland and the fourth one was in varada mudra. This was Goddess Saraswati.
When Maa Saraswati played the Veena, everything in the world got a voice. Hence, she was named as Goddess Saraswati. Since it was the day of Basant Panchami, since then the people started worshipping Goddess Sarawati in Dev Lok and Mrityu Lok.
