In a shocking revelation, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal decided to resign from his post after an elaborate meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Who Is Atishi Marlena Singh?
Born on June 8, 1981, to professor couple Vijay Singh and Tripta Singh, Atishi Marlena Singh is one of the prominent names in the Aam Aadmi Party. As per reports, her middle name is derived by combining the letters "Marx" and "Lenin" which turns out to be Marlena. She belongs to a Punjabi Rajput family, but her middle name often confuses to be from a different religious background and thus she dropped her name during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. Atishi uses ‘AAP’ with her name on social media which reflects her strong association with the party.

Atishi’s Educational Qualifications
Hailing from a robust academic background, Atishi began her educational journey at Springdales School, Pusa Road, Delhi. Later, in 2001, she moved to St. Stephen’s College to pursue her undergraduate degree in History. For higher education, she went to Oxford University to earn a master’s degree in history in 2003, followed by her time at Magdalen College as a Rhodes scholar in 2005.

Atishi’s Political Stint
Atishi’s political journey began in January 2013 when she joined the Aam Aadmi Party. During her tenure, she played an instrumental role in policy formulation. She rose to prominence during Jal Satyagraha in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, in 2015, where she stood by AAP leader Alok Agarwal during the protests and the subsequent legal challenges. Later, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, she was appointed as the party’s in-charge for East Delhi.

Political Rise
Delhi Legislative Assembly elections in 2020 marked a pivotal moment in her political career. Contesting from the Kakaji constituency in South Delhi, Atishi won against BJP candidate Dharambir Singh. This win marked her prominent role within the Delhi government. During 2022-23, Atishi served as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee that focused on Women and Child Welfare, Minority Welfare, and Education.
