Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Inspires Fashion Show In Malaysia

The Alia Bhatt starrer Bollywood film Gangubai Kathiawadi is the fourth-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022 so far. In addition to India, the movie also emerged as a success on a global scale. The movie gained a huge fanbase because of its compelling story and impactful dialogues, and recently, it has also inspired a fashion show in Malaysia.

A renowned Malaysian boutique named Nik Aswat staged a fashion show ‘Northern Haute Couture Fashion Show 2022’, whose theme centred around Gangubai Kathiawadi.

In the show, the models were dressed in outfits, makeup, and hairstyle inspired by Alia Bhatt’s character in the film.

Miss Star Malaysia 2023 and Miss International Malaysia ‘22 first Runner-up Kash Bhullar also donned Gangubai-inspired looks. She sported a bindi, tied her hair in a bun and decorated it with a red rose. She took to her Instagram account to share her looks. She captioned the post in Hindi, “Izzat se jeena ka, kisi se darne ka nahi - Gangubai🔥…” It is a popular dialogue from the film Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The Film Received 8-Minute Standing Ovation At The Berlin International Film Festival

On February 16, 2022, during Gangubai Kathiawadi's worldwide premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, it garnered an eight-minute standing ovation. In an interview with Firstpost, Gangubai Kathiawadi director Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “I feel Gangubai is a film that resonates in your mind. It is an experience that doesn’t need any explanation or analysis. You watch it. You like it. Or you don’t like it. Period. When I heard that standing ovation in Berlin, I got my answer. They actually clapped for six-seven minutes nonstop. That isn’t a small thing. It made all the pain and effort worth the while: the two lockdowns, the pandemic, the recession.”
