Aamir Khan-Kiara Advani Ad Criticised Of ‘Hurting Hindu Sentiments’, Vivek Agnihotri Reacts

Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has criticised the commercial starring Aamir Khan and Kiara Advani which is being accused of allegedly ‘hurting Hindu sentiments’. He shared the video of the bank advertisement tagging the bank and asking “Aisi bakwaas karte hain fir kehte hain Hindus are trolling”.

“I just fail to understand since when Banks have become responsible for changing social & religious traditions? I think @aubankindia should do activism by changing corrupt banking system. Aisi bakwaas karte hain fir kehte hain Hindus are trolling. Idiots,” he wrote.

In the advertisement promoting AU Small Finance Bank India, which goes with the tag Badlav Humse Hai (change begins from us), Khan and Advani are featured as a newly married couple travelling back from their wedding in a car. On reaching the house, they have a conversation regarding who will enter the house first and Advani says, “the one who is new in the house”. Following which, Khan, the groom, steps inside first instead of the usual tradition of the bride doing so and Advani thanks him for taking such a big step. Next, we see, Khan appears in a bank and says in Hindi, “Jo sadiyon hota aya hain, wohi hota rehta hai, aisa kyun? Tabhi toh hum puchte hain sawaal banking ki har pratha se, taki aapko mile best service (Why should traditions that have continued for centuries continue to do so? That’s why we question every banking tradition. So that you get the best service.”

The advertisement has received backlash and has been called out for going against the traditions and ‘hurting Hindu sentiments’. “Dear Aamir Khan, Please make one ad on Halala, Mutah, and Burqa too. Let's change the traditions,” one user wrote.

“AU bank instead of advertising about itself it is throwing mud what is the credibility. bank want to reform society or carry out banking services ?” wrote another user.

Khan has been a victim of the boycott trend since his last release Laal Singh Chaddha. The film faced backlash for allegedly hurting sentiments of the Sikh community, and for his acting as well.
