A 93-year-old farmer, Nivrutti Shinde, recently walked into a jewellery store with his wife, Shantabai, to buy a mangalsutra. What unfolded inside the store touched millions online. Dressed modestly and appearing weary from their journey, the couple was initially mistaken by store staff as being in need of financial help. But hearts melted when Shinde gently revealed that he wanted to purchase the sacred ornament for his wife. The humble farmer handed over ₹1,120, all he had, hoping to buy the mangalsutra as a gift.

The Jeweller’s Response That Won Hearts
The shop owner, deeply moved by Shinde’s gesture and sincerity, refused to take the full amount. “He gave me ₹1,120, saying he wanted to buy a mangalsutra for his wife. I just took ₹20 as a token and gave them the ornament,” said the owner, overwhelmed by the couple’s love.

Hailing from Ambhora Jahagir village in Jalna district, the couple are farmers currently on a foot pilgrimage to Pandharpur for the sacred Ashadhi Ekadashi festival. Despite their age and challenges, they walk together, supporting one another every step of the way. Locals describe them as inseparable and self-reliant, occasionally receiving help from kind-hearted strangers.
