Korean dishes are mostly easy and quick to make and have a comforting feel that is perfect for those who live away from home or are working professionals. However, the sauces are often what must be given credit for their intense flavours. Korean BBQ sauce is one of them. Here is an easy recipe for the versatile sauce that you can use to cook, barbecue, or as a dip for your dry snacks.

How to Make Korean BBQ Sauce?

Here is an easy step-by-step recipe for awesome delicious Korean BBQ sauce to spice up all your favourite dishes:

  1. Peel and mince 3 garlic cloves and grate 3 tsp ginger. 
  2. Pour some sesame oil into a medium pan and place it on a stove at medium heat until it sizzles. Add the ginger and garlic to the hot oil and saute it for a minute. 
  3. Take a bowl of about ½ cup of low-sodium vegetable broth or water, add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch or your preferred choice of starch, and stir it well until the starch dissolves. 
  4. Add the remaining ingredients to your pan with sauteed garlic and ginger including 1/4 cup of low-sodium soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of gochujang paste or sriracha, 3 tbsp maple syrup or your preferred liquid sweetener, and 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar.
  5. Mix them all well to ensure the flavours are distributed evenly. 
  6. Now add the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce’s consistency.
  7. Let your Korean BBQ sauce boil. Once done, lower the heat to medium-low flame and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. This will help it thicken. 
  8. Pour the sauce into a glass jar with an airtight lid to store it well. 
  9. Your Korean BBQ sauce is now ready to eat.
  10. Use it for marination, glaze your barbecued vegetables and meats, or as a dip to enjoy chips.

  • 2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
