Originating in Italy, it has travelled globally, evolving into countless variations and becoming one of the most cherished pasta dishes ever. But what if we told you that you could whip up this classic dish at home using just three simple ingredients? Below, we have a recipe by chef Jennifer Segal for you to try.
Lasagna is a beloved comfort food known for its rich, layered goodness and heartwarming flavours. Traditionally, it involves a bit of effort with multiple ingredients and layers, but the beauty of this dish is its versatility. Even with a simplified approach, such as using just three key ingredients, lasagna remains incredibly satisfying and delicious. This makes it a perfect choice for a quick and easy meal without sacrificing the comfort and flavour that makes lasagna a favourite around the world.

1. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's at the right temperature when you're ready to bake the lasagna.
2. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or a small amount of oil. This prevents the lasagna from sticking and makes cleanup easier.
3. If using regular lasagna noodles, cook them according to the package instructions until they are al dente (firm to the bite). This usually involves boiling them in salted water for about 8-10 minutes.
4. Drain the noodles in a colander and lay them flat on a sheet of parchment paper or a clean kitchen towel to prevent them from sticking together.
5. If using no-boil lasagna noodles, they can be used directly without pre-cooking, saving you some prep time.
6. Begin by spreading a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the greased baking dish. This helps to prevent the noodles from sticking and adds flavour to the base of your lasagna.
7. Place a single layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, making sure they are slightly overlapping to cover the surface completely.
8. Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded mozzarella cheese over the noodles. This will melt and bind the layers together.
9. Repeat the layering process with another layer of marinara sauce, noodles, and cheese.
10. Continue layering until all ingredients are used, typically ending with a final layer of marinara sauce and a good amount of cheese on top. Ensure the top layer is well covered with cheese for a bubbly, golden finish.
11. Cover the baking dish with aluminium foil to keep the moisture in and prevent the top from burning. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. This step helps the lasagna cook evenly and ensures the noodles are tender.
12. After 25 minutes, carefully remove the aluminium foil. Continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and has a golden-brown colour. This allows the top to become crispy and adds a nice texture.
13. Once baked, remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for five-ten minutes. This cooling period helps the layers to set and makes it easier to cut and serve.
14. Use a sharp knife to cut the lasagna into squares or rectangles. Serve warm and enjoy the delicious, comforting layers of your homemade three-ingredient lasagna.
