Makki ka Halwa is a sweet dish made from cornflour, ghee, and a few basic ingredients like sugar and dry fruits. It's known for its grainy yet smooth texture and its ability to warm you up during this winter season. It’s easy to make and has a delightful aroma that will increase your cravings.

How To Make Makki Ka Halwa

1. To make Makki Ka Halwa, first in a pan, combine sugar and water, and bring it to a quick boil. Once it starts boiling, turn off the heat and set the syrup aside.

2. Next, heat ghee in a separate pan. Once hot, add suji and besan. Stir continuously on medium heat until the besan releases a pleasant roasted aroma. This step ensures the besan is perfectly roasted.

3. Slowly add the makki ka atta, stirring well. Keep cooking and stirring the mixture until it turns a dark brown colour. This will take some time. 

4. Once the mixture has reached the right colour, pour in the prepared sugar syrup. Stir everything together and cook on low heat until the halwa begins to thicken.

5. Finally, add the chopped nuts and stir until everything is well combined. Once the halwa reaches a thick consistency, turn off the flame, and it’s ready to be served hot.

  • 1 tablespoon semolina (Sooji)
  • 1 cup cornflour (Makki ka atta)
  • 1 tablespoon gram flour (Besan)
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • A handful chopped of nuts

  1. Step 1:

    To make Makki Ka Halwa, start by preparing a sugar syrup. In a pan, combine sugar and water, bring it to a quick boil, then turn off the heat and set it aside.

    In a separate pan, heat some ghee, and once hot, add suji and besan. Stir continuously on medium heat until the besan releases a pleasant roasted aroma.

  3. Step 3:

    Gradually add makki ka atta, stirring it in slowly, and continue cooking until the mixture turns a rich brown colour.

  4. Step 4:

    Once it reaches that stage, pour in the sugar syrup and cook on low heat, stirring until the halwa thickens.

  5. Step 5:

    Finally, add chopped nuts, turn off the flame, and it’s ready to be served hot.
