According to a Sacnilk report, The Taj Story collected approximately ₹1.04 Crore in India on its first day (Friday, October 31, 2025). The film recorded modest occupancy across metros and tier-two cities, with evening shows seeing a slight uptick driven by audience curiosity over its controversial theme.
In the days preceding its national debut, ‘The Taj Story’ had become embroiled in a controversy. Two Public Interest Litigations (PIL) had been filed seeking a ban on it because it misrepresents facts about the Taj Mahal. The filmmakers stood firm in their defence and were not deterred by the litigation. Actors Paresh Rawal and Zakir Hussain addressed the criticism publicly, stating that there was a lot of research that had gone into the film, and that it did not intend to stir any kind of religious or communal conflict.
