Michael Twitter Review: Michael Jackson Biopic Leaves Fans Unimpressed, Dubbed ‘Shallow and Incomplete Fairy Tale’

Anticipation around ‘Michael’, the much-hyped biopic on Michael Jackson, is quickly giving way to disappointment. Early reactions on social media suggest that while the film looks polished and features strong musical moments, it struggles to dig beneath the surface of its subject.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film was expected to offer a definitive take on the King of Pop’s life. Instead, many viewers feel it avoids the more complicated and uncomfortable aspects of his legacy, opting for a safer, crowd-pleasing narrative.

Similarly, The HoloFiles (@theholofiles) described the film as overly cautious, “MICHAEL is an extraordinarily sanitized, overly audience-friendly music biopic that makes Bohemian Rhapsody look like a complex, nuanced character study. With the dramatic depth of a Wikipedia article, the film introduces but fails to even remotely explore fascinating aspects of Michael Jackson’s life…

While criticism has been sharp, one aspect that consistently earns praise is Jaafar Jackson’s performance.

Alexandre Almeida (@acmalmeida2) added, “Michael is a shallow and incomplete fairy tale… Way too rushed, it at least entertains with the excellent Jafaar Jackson… and the good musical scenes.”

Even critics who were less harsh acknowledged that the film has its moments.

Miguel Araiza (@miguelaraizac) offered a more balanced take, “Michael is an aggressively ‘okay’ movie… If you’re going in expecting to have fun and don’t want to delve deeply into his life, you’ll have a good time.”

Michael Cast and Release Date

The film features Jaafar Jackson in the lead role, alongside Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.

According to the official synopsis, Michael aims to present a sweeping look at Jackson’s life beyond the stage, tracing his journey from the Jackson 5 to becoming one of the biggest entertainers in the world.

Michael is set to release in cinemas on April 24, 2026.
