Trailer Of ‘Bhakshak’

The 'Bhakshak' trailer sheds light on the ominous reality within a girls' shelter home, overseen by Aditya Srivastava's character, Bansi Sahu. Bhumi's protagonist takes on the daunting task of unravelling the truth, despite dissenting advice from those around her. Based on true events, the film provides a glimpse into Vaishali's relentless pursuit of justice for the young girls.

Assisted by Sanjay Mishra, Bhumi Pednekar's character engages in a fierce battle against Bansi Sahu, portrayed convincingly by Aditya Srivastava. Bhumi's authentic portrayal, coupled with the distinct accent, places the story in Bihar. The narrative aims to bring attention to the issue of people remaining silent despite being aware of heinous crimes against women in their communities.

Muzaffarpur Women's Shelter Case Inspired 'Bhakshak’

'Bhakshak,' featuring Bhumi Pednekar and Aditya Srivastava in prominent roles, draws inspiration from the Muzaffarpur Women's Shelter Case of 2020. In the film, Aditya Srivastava portrays Bansi Sahu, a character inspired by Brajesh Thakur, the mastermind behind the real-life case.

The actual case gained public attention when the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submitted a report to the Bihar government on May 26, 2018. This report highlighted the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls within the shelter home, bringing the distressing issue to light for the first time.

On May 29, 2018, the Bihar government took decisive action by relocating the girls from the shelter home in Muzaffarpur to alternative protective facilities. Following this, on May 31, 2018, an FIR was filed against the 11 individuals accused in the case.

The severity of the situation prompted the Supreme Court to intervene. On August 2, 2018, the Supreme Court officially recognised the alleged sexual assaults involving approximately 30 minor girls at the Muzaffarpur shelter home. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on November 28.

In 2020, a Delhi court delivered justice by convicting 19 individuals, including the primary accused, Brajesh Thakur, in connection with the sexual and physical assault of girls at the shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. The presiding judge, Saurabh Kulshreshtha, found Thakur guilty of aggravated sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and gang rape.
