Jana Nayagan has faced intense trials to get a certificate from CBFC. After seven months of delay, the Vijay-starrer has finally scheduled a release date and also received an 'A' certificate. For those who were waiting to see Vijay on the big screen for one last time, the movie is said to release on July 24.
Jana Nayagan Expected Release Date
Jana Nayagan is reportedly scheduled to arrive on the big screens on July 24, 2026, Friday. The makers are yet to make an official announcement regarding the release date. However, the film's Canadian distributor, York Cinemas, confirmed it for July 24.
The movie was earlier slated to release in January 2026 but could not be released after it failed to receive a certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

What Are The Changes Made In Jana Nayagan?
CBFC gave an 'A' certificate to Jana Nayagan. As per reports, the name of Vijay's character has been changed in the film. His character's name is reported to be Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, shortened to TVK. But TVK also stands for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the name of Vijay's political party.
The dialogue "Ambedkar sattam...to... TVK sattam" has also been replaced. Other changes include the deletion of the Indian flag falling on the ground, words like Bhagavatham and Ranganathar being muted, words like OM and New India being removed, among others.

The final runtime of the film is now 3 hours and 3 minutes.
Why Did CBFC Certification Take Seven Months?
The long delay was caused by a dispute between the makers and the CBFC over politically sensitive dialogues. Jana Nayagan was supposed to release in January 2026 with a U/A certificate, but an examining committee member filed an internal complaint, saying the film might hurt public sentiments.
After repeated delays, KVN Productions even filed a petition in the Supreme Court but withdrew it later and sent the movie to the CBFC's revising committee. Jana Nayagan even more problems when it was leaked online in April 2026.
The movie also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.
Jana Nayagan is supposed to be Thalapathy Vijay’s last film as he is currently serving as the Chief Minister Of Tamil Nadu and wants to focus on politics only.
