A decade back, we had a few influencers on social media, but now, there is no dearth of influencer marketing as people are using their skills to create content and connect with people all over the world. Among them is Ramsha Sultan, who started her journey of being an influencer to express herself.

“I was doing Engineering when I got bored of it, and I wanted to express myself. Engineering was all about studying and taking exams, with no practical application in the real world, I lost interest in it, and I decided to start my own YouTube channel to express myself,” she said, and thus, India got its first Hijabi influencer.

HerZindagi’s new campaign, 'Shakti Rupen Sansthita', is an initiative to bring you stories of inspiring, independent, and strong women from different corners of India. We see every woman as an embodiment of strength. Some influence the world with their professional growth, others by personal choices. We believe that there is Goddesses Durga in every woman, and this initiative glorifies their efforts to bring a positive change in our society.

Who Is Ramsha Sultan?

Growing up, Ramsha was an active and bright child who was pampered and loved by her parents. “I have always been a performer, a person who was always on stage in school,” she said, describing her childhood.

Speaking about her family, Ramsha said, “We are a small loving family Alhamdulillah.” She not only used to participate in debate, poetry, monologue, and soliloquies competitions, but also won many awards at the inter-school, zonal, and national levels. She is also a national volleyball player.

Concept Of Hijab In Islam

Explaining the concept of the Hijab in Islam, Ramsha said that the religion gives women a dignified status, and therefore, it promotes modest clothing. The Hijab is a visual representation and teaches people to be considerate towards women. “It is a part of our faith, and Muslim women embrace it beautifully,” she added.

Speaking about misconceptions about Islam, Ramsha said that many people believe that the Hijab is forced upon Muslim women. “When we talk about ‘freedom’, why do we assume that less clothing is the only choice women will make?” she asked.

The Delhi-based influencer said that every woman has the right to choose her clothes, irrespective of religion. She added that dressing modestly has nothing to do with patriarchy, it is a choice.

Talking about her religion, Ramsha said, “Islam is a religion that empowered women in an era when girl children were buried alive. It has given women the right to choose a partner, the right to inheritance, the right to keep her last name after marriage, the right to divorce, the right to work and earn money or to own a business, the right to study, and the right to vote. It’s a religion that has empowered women for hundreds of years now.”

Trolling On Social Media

Being a social media influencer has its perks, but the biggest disadvantage is trolling. Faceless trolls hide behind the screen and post cruel and heartbreaking comments. They believe that they have the right to say anything to a person with a public account, and hence, they are often called out by influencers and actors.

Ramsha said that being a content creator on social media, one has to build a thick skin towards hate. She believes that everyone has the right to express their opinions, but she refuses to focus on negativity. “However, Alhamdulillah, I am that one creator who gets immense love and respect on social media, which keeps me going,” the influencer said.
