Anjali Tendulkar- The Woman Behind Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s Success

It was love at first sight for Sachin Tendulkar who fell for Anjali Mehta. Today, she is the example of how a loving wife can sacrifice her career to stand as a pillar behind her man’s success. Mother to two kids Arjun and Sara, Anjali Tendulkar gave up her career as a paediatrician only so that she could take care of home affairs even as Sachin Tendulkar’s career grew by leaps and bounds. Early Life

The daughter of an Englishwoman Annabel Mehta and Gujarati industrialist Anand Mehta, Anjali was born on 10 November 1967 in Mumbai. Her parents met while studying at the London School of Economics. Her mother is the director of a Mumbai-based NGO Apnalaya that works for the cause of education, health and women empowerment. Her upbringing was in an affluent businessman family in a palatial house in Mumbai. Apart from that, her family owns many lavish properties including a 130-year-old mansion in Lonavala and a house in Goa. She did her schooling from Bombay International School followed which she studied medicine at Grant Medical College. After completing her studies, she joined the JJ Hospital as a pediatrician.

Meeting Sachin

Hers is a classic 90s love story. Her father had once asked her to meet Sachin who was 15 years old at that time and playing in England but she was not interested in him then. Years later, she met him at an airport where she had gone to receive her mother. She did not even recognise him at first but fell for his cute looks. The two started dating and got married after five years of courtship in 1995.

A Life Centered Around The Star

Anjali used to avoid watching live matches with Sachin playing at the stadium and opted to see the recorded versions. She had only made an exception for a match at Eden Gardens and another at Wankhede stadium. Reportedly her life used to come to a stop whenever Sachin was playing in a match as she was too excited about his performance. She used to stop eating, drinking, taking calls or even loo breaks during that time.

A Wife And A Mentor

Anjali is six years older to Sachin Tendulkar and the couple’s age difference has never been a cause of concern to them. In fact, Sachin has admitted in interviews that Anjali is like a mentor to him and the kids. She has motivated him all throughout and Sachin has also funnily disclosed that he is a bit afraid of his wife’s temper!
