Actress Anushka Sharma, who recently gave birth to daughter Vamika, has picked and put up her favourite maternity clothes on an online sale for charity. She shared the news on her Instagram in a video where she announced that the initiative will help in supporting maternal health through a foundation named SNEHA.
Taking to her Instagram page, Anushka revealed: "If even just 1% of pregnant women in urban India bought 1 piece of maternity clothing preloved over newly manufactured, EACH YEAR we can conservatively save about as much water as a person drinks in over 200 years!"
Here is what she said in the video: "Hi guys, I'm thrilled to share my new closet sharing initiative through which I've picked out some of my favourite maternity clothes for an online charity sale."
"I thought that was a really cool fact. Proceeds from your purchases will help support maternal health through Sneha. The environmental savings of buying these pieces would amount to over 2.5 lakh liters of drinking water."

Elaborating further on this initiative Anushka told ETimes, "This is a very simple way that each of us can live kinder lives. By sharing pieces back into the circular fashion system and shopping preloved, we have a huge positive impact on the environment. During my pregnancy, I thought this phase in our lives is uniquely suited to participate in the circular economy. So I hope we can kickstart this ecosystem together."
Another leading media house quoted Anushka as saying, "During my pregnancy, I realised that this transient time is perfect to participate in the circular fashion economy. These are pieces we will wear for a few months, so when I learned more about the resources that go into making them, I thought it was crucial to build an ecosystem through which we can share our clothes and buy from each other.”
Maternity clothing has been big for the past few years and the market keeps growing for the same as more and more people have realised that it is important to be comfortable. All want to look chic and cute. It has become a major need among expecting mothers who go through a nine-month emotional rollercoaster.
Here is a glimpse of Anishka's personal maternity collection that she has put up for sale.
Anushka is not new to the fashion world as she launched a clothing line named Nush in 2007, with the goal to make fashion accessible.
