With drizzling raindrops, gloomy skies, and cool winds blowing monsoon seasons call for some hot pakoras (fritters) and chai (tea) with family and friends. Pakora or other deep-fried snacks like Chop and Piyaji in West Bengal, Moong Dal Pakora in Maharashtra, Kalmi Vada in Rajasthan, and Samosa across the country, are relished in Indian households during this cosy weather.
If you love eating deep-fried snacks during this weather, here are some healthy tips to consider while making them as suggested by Priyanshi Patel, Director at N.K. Proteins.
The oil you use for deep frying food influences its nutritional value. Priyanshi suggests, “It is crucial to select an oil with a high smoke point otherwise it can break down into harmful compounds when overheated. Additionally, oils that resist burning are excellent for deep frying because they are stable even at high temperatures, ensuring that snacks remain crispy while retaining their nutritional value.”

It is essential to fry your foods at the correct temperature. “If the oil is too hot, it can turn your food's exterior charred and leave the interior uncooked. Conversely, when the oil (Olive Oil Benefits) is not hot enough, the food will take in more oil than it should making it oily,” says Priyanshi. Use a kitchen thermometer to track the temperature.
When frying multiple foods, avoid brimming the pan. Too many food items in a pan can lead to the oil’s temperature drop resulting in uncooked food. “Fry in small batches to maintain the oil temperature and achieve uniformly crispy snacks,” advises Priyanshi.

Prepare your ingredients mindfully for effective results. Priyanshi recommends, “Ensure that the items you are frying are dry before they go into the oil. Moisture can cause the oil to splatter and lead to soggy food.”
Once you are done frying, place your snacks (Easy Snacks For Kids) on a wire rack or a plate covered with paper towels or tissues to drain the extra oil. Priyanshi says, “This step helps remove any residual oil from the surface, making your fried food less oily.”
