Ganesh Visarjan 2026 In Delhi: 81 Artificial Ponds Set Up For Idol Immersion; Check Locations

Ganesh Utsav reaches its grand and emotional climax day for Visarjan, where millions of devotees gather to give farewell to Lord Ganesha. This ritual signifies Ganesha’s return to his home, carrying away all the worries and obstacles of his worshippers. The Ganpati fever across the national capital has been immense, but the commitment towards environment and civic duty also hold a very important place. 

81 Artificial Ponds For Ganpati Visarjan 2026

The Delhi Government has created 81 artificial ponds for Ganesh Visarjan this year. In a unified attempt to protect and perverse the river Yamuna, municipal authorities, civic bodies and the Delhi Government have come up with an eco-friendly plan. The municipal department, along with the Delhi Flood Department has constructed 81 artificial ponds across various zones in the city.

Why Ganpati Visarjan Banned In Rivers? 

For decades, Ganpati idols have been immersed in the rivers. These heavy Plaster Of Paris (POP), coated with toxic paints when immersed in the rivers, does not dissolve properly, and sinks to the bottom. This forms a thick sludge at the bottom of the river, reduces the oxygen level, and harms aquatic life. Thus, to protect the Delhi Government, along with the Delhi Pollution Control Boards has issued strict guidelines regarding immersion this year. 

Even the Environmental Minister Majinder Singh Sirsa said, ‘Our foremost duty is to keep Yamuna clean while giving every devotee the right environment to celebrate’. 

Delhi Government Effort For Ganpati Visarjan

To make the Ganpati immersion process easy and to prevent long distance travelling, 81 artificial ponds have been strategically distributed across all MCD zones in the capital city. These eco-friendly ponds have been lined with geo-membrane sheets, with adequate water supply and for an easy Visarjan process. Officials mentioned that the same ponds will be used for Durga Puja immersion, and later for Chhath festivities as well. 

Conclusion

Ganesh Visarjan is a joyous celebration of faith, unity and gratitude. By adopting an eco-friendly practice of immersing the idols in artificial ponds, the Delhi government has taken a right step towards the environment. Protecting sacred water bodies such as Yamuna is a great farewell gift for Ganpati bappa.
