Kyren Lacy, the former LCU receiver, died at the age of 24 on Saturday night in Houston. Reportedly, he died by suicide while getting chased by police authorities, according to a Harris County (Texas) sheriff’s report.
According to the authorities, Lacy discharged a firearm during a verbal argument late Saturday night, as reported by his female family member. As the police arrived on the scene, Lacy had fled in a car. The chase apparently ended in a crash. As the police went to extract Lacy from the car, they found him dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lacy was declared dead at the scene by emergency responders. Reportedly, he was facing criminal charges for a car accident in Louisiana in December.

"We're saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kyren Lacy," LSU said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing."

According to police records, Lacy was accused of causing a car crash that claimed the life of a 78-year-old man on December 17, 2024, after which, he fled the scene without rendering aid or calling authorities. On January 12, 2025, he surrendered but was released later on $151,000 bail. As per Lafourche (Louisiana) Parish Sheriff's Office statement, Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle. A hearing was scheduled in front of the grand jury on Monday.

"It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the tragic passing of Kyren Lacy. First and foremost, we ask that the public and the media give his family the space and time they need to grieve this unimaginable loss in peace," Lacy's attorney, Matthew Ory, said in a statement to ESPN's Mark Schlabach.
Ory further added that he was "very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges" and that "we will be demanding a full and transparent review of how this investigation was conducted and why."
