Cut to 2012 and 2013, Padukone had four releases – Cocktail, Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Chennai Express. All of them were blockbuster hits and the actor was suddenly in the limelight bigger than ever before. Each role was poles apart from the other, which highlighted her versatility.
In 2013, Padukone and Ranveer Singh appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. It was sort of a Gujarati version of Romeo and Juliet. The film was a major hit, and the two leads garnered positive reviews for their acting. This film established Padukone as a serious actor. It highlighted her acting prowess, dialogue delivery and dancing abilities.
From Finding Fanny (2014) to Piku (2015), the actor brought fresh, relatable but mellow roles to the screen. She was the next-door girl in the two films and was much loved. With Tamasha (2015) and Bajirao Mastani (2015), Deepika Padukone established that she could go to any depth to do justice to her roles. Later in Padmavat (2018), she played the legendary Rajput Queen who meets a harrowing end, making it the most emotionally-exhausting role of her life.
