It seems COVID-19 is returning with fresh cases reported in Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Thailand. Shilpa’s diagnosis comes at a time when Singapore is reported to have a spike in cases, becoming a hotspot for two new Omicron subvariants; LF.7 and NB.1.8. Both variants are descendants of the JN.1 lineage, which brought the 2024 global wave. While the new strains are not found to be more dangerous than the previous ones, they are spreading quickly. Most cases remain mild; however, it's crucial to be cautious and watch out for the following early signs:
- Persistent cough
- Sore throat
- Nausea and vomiting
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Brain fog or confusion

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) said in a statement, “COVID-19 cases are estimated to have increased to 14,200 in the week of April 27 to May 3, 2025, compared to 11,100 cases in the previous week.”
The statement reads, "The Ministry of Health (MOH) and Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) are monitoring a recent increase in COVID-19 infections in Singapore.
