Alia Bhatt Joins Tumbbad 2, Sohum Shah Announces Official Release Date

Alia Bhatt has officially joined Tumbbad 2 after the months of speculation around her involvement in the sequel. Along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the actress will lead the film. Sohum Shah, who impressed everyone with his performance in the first part, officially announced this development on Instagram. The duo also announced the release date of Tumbbad 2, and fans will have to wait till 2027 to watch the film on the big screens. 

Tumbbad 2 Release Date

Tumbbad 2 will release in theatres on December 3, 2027. Announcing the release date and welcoming Alia, Sohum Shah wrote, "A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to #Tumbbad2, @aliaabhatt #PralayAayega See you in cinemas 03.12.2027."

Tumbbad was a big hit and fans have high hopes for the sequel.

What was Tumbbad about?

Tumbbad takes inspiration from Marathi folklore and follows a family who built a shrine for Hastar, a monster who is never to be worshipped. They further try to take his cursed wealth, but things take a darker turn.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi and written by Mitesh Shah, Adesh Prasad, Barve, and Anand Gandhi, the movie stars Sohum Shah in the lead role. The movie also features Jyoti Malshe, Anita Date-Kelkar, Ronjini Chakraborty, Deepak Damle, Mohammad Samad, Harsh K, Rudra Soni, Madhav Hari Joshi, Cameron Anderson and Piyush Kaushik.  

Made on the budget of Rs 15 crore, the movie did not do well financially at the time of its release. Due to its huge fan following later on, the movie was released in 2024 again and earned over Rs 50 crore. It even became the second highest-grossing re-released Indian film.

Over the years, Tumbbad gained a cult fan following and is even regarded as one of the best Indian horror film.
With the addition of Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, fans are hoping that the sequel will match the quality of its first part.
