Most of us hate to detangle our hair especially when they are long. But, it’s essential to prevent breakage and keep it smooth and manageable. It requires careful attention to avoid damaging the strands while removing knots and tangles. Mr Darshan Yewalekar, Celebrity Hair Designer shared some of the effective tips to detangle the hair without damaging them.
5 Tips To Detangle Your Hair Without Damaging It
Here are some of the effective tips to detangle the hair without causing harm:
Tip 1: Use The Right Tools
According to Darshan, start by shampooing your hair, followed by applying a conditioner. He recommends using a wide-tooth comb for detangling and always beginning from the mid-lengths to the ends. Avoid combing from the roots right away, as it is easier to remove knots at the ends first and gradually work your way up toward the scalp.
Tip 2: Consider Hair Spa
According to Darshan, if you are experiencing hair fall and other issues, a hair spa before detangling can help. If you are at home, a hair mask, along with a detangler or paddle brush, can make the process smoother.
Tip 3: Detangle In Steps
Darshan recommends detangling in steps. Always detangle from the ends first, then move to the middle, and finally, the roots to prevent unnecessary breakage. One common mistake is applying conditioner and immediately combing from the roots, which can lead to more damage.

Tip 4: Keep Your Hair Hydrated
According to Darshan, keeping your hair hydrated is equally important. He recommends using a leave-in conditioner to help maintain moisture, especially when hair is exposed to rough conditions like extreme weather, strong winds, or long commutes. In such cases, he advises using a moisture spray or leave-in conditioner can restore softness. Simply spray it on and use a paddle or detangling brush to keep your hair smooth and manageable.
Tip 5: Use Hair Oil
It’s no surprise that mineral oil is effective in preventing hair damage while detangling. You can use a generous amount of mineral oil on your hair to nourish it and then use a wide-tooth comb for detangling.
