Due to heat and humidity, we all perspire and our feet tend to have areas where a lot of germs accumulate and cause bad odour. It is important to get rid of the pungent smell and keep your feet smelling fresh. The way we care for our body, it is also important to look after our feet. This is the season when you bring out your favourite slippers and flat sandals but this is also the reason why your feet crack if not taken care of. So here are a few remedies that will help you maintain foot hygiene.
For a quick fix, every now and then, it is good to soak your feet in cold water with some salt and a few drops of essential oil mixed in it. Giving yourself a pedicure becomes important in the summer heat.
For a proper pedicure at home, take some warm water, add a few pumps of herbal shampoo, a few drops of olive oil and salt. Dip your feet and soak for 15 minutes. Clean the nails with a brush. Use a pumice stone on the heels and side of the soles. Avoid metal scrubbers. You could also opt to scrub your feet with a rough towel or loofah. Then wash the feet in clean water. Dry with a towel.
Now, give your feet a scrub treatment. For this, you need to mix ground almonds with curd, some sugar, and a pinch of turmeric. Apply it on the feet. After 15 to 20 minutes, rub the mixture on the skin gently in circular movements. Wash it off with water and then massage the feet with olive oil. Wipe off the excess with a moist towel.
For the next step, mix one tablespoon each of lemon juice and honey with 50 ml rose water. Apply on the feet and relax for half an hour. Then, wash it off with plain water.
Home Remedies For Sweaty Feet
Mix together lemon juice, rose water and cucumber juice in equal quantities. Apply on feet and leave on for half an hour. Wash it off with regular water.
Another mixture which would work wonders is a paste of water and baking soda with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply on the feet and leave it for ten minutes then wash off with.
You could also mix a little talcum powder with baking soda and apply it on the feet.
Cooling Foot Bath
Add lemon juice, rose water, and a splash of eau de cologne in cold water. Soak your feet in it. This mixture cools, cleanses and removes odour from your feet. After this soak, mix together 4 drops of tea tree essential oil and equal amount of rose water. Apply it on the feet and relax.
Cooling Massage Oil
To make this concoction, mix together 100 ml olive oil and 2 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, 2 drops of rosemary essential oil and 3 drops of khus or rose essential oil. Store in an airtight glass jar and use it sparingly for massaging your feet. This cools and protects your feet.
